The effect of social media on media of agenda setting: The instance of Soma

At the present days, with the development of the technology, globalisation of the communication tools, people are able to reach the information faster in the information and communication era. Social Media, the impact is felt in every sphere of daily life. Thus, social media, social platform has undertaken the task as they wanted users to instantly share their thoughts and feelings. Agenda setting theory is a major power in the hands of the media. According to this theory, communication tools and to direct the public to the problems and specific issues about people's thoughts and attitudes of the subject it is affected. Agenda settings teory approaches the relationship between social media and the conventional media in terms of both their agendas and assumes that their influence on one another is determined through the power of the agendas. The aim of this study is to investigate the relationship between conventional media and social media and With social media's agenda setting theory is to investigate the effects of conventional media. In the study, to determine the public opinion agenda setting function of the Twitter social media "Soma Disaster" impact on the sharing of conventional media as defined in Soma Coal Mine fires were investigated.In the study, twitter sharing of related subject, between 14.05.2014-17.05.2014 Hürriyet, Zaman, Posta and Birgün news in the newspaper scans in order to assess how they affect the format and content analysis were used.
