In all over the world there exist kind of vernacular architecture examples. If we investigate this traditional life, we find out different components and rules, which constitute identity of this region. Mardin traditional architecture has developed on this respect and till recently years it attempt to protect on his own identity. Although, all the mistakes and unconscious interventions, defective restorations and the recent structuring, which don?t sustain the characteristic of the old city, have damaged this vernacular architecture. Even in the old city existed dwellings couldn?t correspond the contemporary life, local inhabitants have to remove to the new city. However, the new apartment blocks have been developed without taking in account the features of this area and requirements of the inhabitants. So the new designed area is totally disconnected with the traditional image. Hereby, this vernacular heritage come to harm.In this study, it will be developed a design grammar based on the rule-based design of shape grammar for analyzing and interpretation this characteristic vernacular architecture. First part contains the investigation of the components and the rules, which are constitute the traditional architecture such conceptual and geometrical context. On the second part, this components and rules would be reinterpreted in an algorithmic design structure. The determined design steps in that design grammar for this traditional language aim to produce infinitive number of dwellings in the same vocabulary. Finally, the outcomes through the design grammar mechanism would be brought together to consist the new, contemporary tissue which is derived from the traditional context as alternative suburban instead of the apartment blocks in the new city part.
