Abstract (EN)
The increase in energy consumption in the world and the fact that origin of majority of the resources is fossil sources is damaging to nature. Most of the energy consumption is caused by basic requirements of the buildings such as heating, cooling and lighting. The increase in housing stock along with the population has brought up the energy efficiency concept. When we look at traditional architecture in Turkey, it is observable that environmental and climatic data and local material resources are properly evaluated in terms of low energy building design. These traditional construction techniques and materials and the way of constructors using them provide knowledge to 21. century architects. In consideration of all these factors that are mentioned in this particular study; the parameters of climate responsive design are developped from traditional house stock that are located in Ordu district. In the first chapter, it is emphasized that houses that are chosen for the study satisfy the parameters of climate responsive design. Along with that they are not defined as low enery buildings. In the first chapter, the aim of the thesis is underlined as upgrading particular buildings' envelopes according to current climate conditions. Literatural resources are listed in this section. In second chapter, information about the parameters of climate responsive design and climate types in Turkey are explained. In the third chapter, the steps of approach to evaluate traditional architecture in terms of the requirements of climate responsive design are explanied. In the fourth chapter, approach steps are applied on two registered houses that are explained in previous chapters and analysis of the energy consumption of the buildings is carried out through the simulation program and the results are compared. The evaluations are finally given in the fifth chapter.
