Traditional houses of Sivrihisar

In the continuously changing cultural environment of today's, the discovery of the traditional civil architecture works will enlighten the future of our architecture. In this study, traditional houses of Sivrihisar on which no pre vious work exist are investigated. Although this town is on the main highway, some traditional cultural values are still alive. In this study, the civil architecture examples are determined and the conditions for the protection and continuation of the existing structure are investigated considering the living conditions, struc tural technics and trends of growing of the town. The thesis is divided into six chapters. In the first chapter, the location of the site, aims of the study and the methods used are described. In the second chapter, a general description of the town; history, natural and artificial characteristics of the town and the development of the traditional structure are mentioned. In the third chapter, 135 houses of the structure are found to be worth protection and the descriptions of these houses are given. -v-In the fourth chapter architectural and technical aspects of the structure are investigated in detail. The conditions on which the traditional structure has developed are also mentioned and vine yard houses are compared with Middle Anatolia to investigate the social and economical problems of the event. In the fifth chapter, the traditional structure was discussed in the scale of the both of the single house and the town. The thesis was completed with the last chapter in which the some cautions for the protection and the continuation of the traditional structure in both of single house and the town scale was given according to results of the restoration works on a street.
