Abstract (EN)

Traditional textures are places where social characteristics, cultural characteristics, and knowledge are reflected in the space and keep the history alive. These textures have many unique values: their settlement features, plan and facade character, building material, and construction technique. However, due to the conditions brought by today's living standards and natural conditions, traditional textures are starting to lose their specifity. In terms of cultural continuality, it is essential to concervation of these textures and transfer them to the future. Turhal district of Tokat, where cultural values have been significantly preserved, contains monumental structures, traditional urban texture, and traditional residences. The area with the traditional texture in the district has been declared a risky area due to the earthquake risk, and an urban transformation decision has been taken in this area. Despite having qualified houses and the existence of an urban texture integrated with monumental buildings, only one of the traditional houses in this area is registered. In the area where demolitions started within the scope of the urban transformation project, unregistered traditional houses, which are cultural heritage, face with extinction. In this study, which deals with 303 traditional houses identified in the Turhal district, the settlement and facade characteristics of traditional Turhal houses are evaluated. On-site observations, field studies, and sourcescanning is used for evaluation, and typological data on traditional houses' settlement and facade characteristics were obtained through analysis. Typological data were evaluated and explained with analysis and tables, and classifications of traditional Turhal houses were made. An inventory was created for traditional houses with the data obtained from the studies. Considering the cultural heritage elements that have been destroyed by unconscious interventions or that have not been preserved, let alone preserved, documentation is the first step in the sustainability of cultural values. In this thesis it is aimed to document the 303 traditional houses that are threatened with extinction and the settlement pattern containing these houses, and to create a reference for future studies.
