Abstract (EN)
For this dissertation we composed a new piece in 'Concerto Grosso' genre, which is one of the most prominent genre of the Baroque era. Although, the concertino parts (solo) of this composition were composed for traditional Turkish music instruments, the ripieno parts were arranged for the Baroque orchestra. For this purpose, we attempted to provide information about the Concerto Grosso genre from the Baroque era that is the first establishment of this genre. This information was obtained from Turkish and Western first hand sources. Afterwards, we dealt with the Turkish - Ottoman Music as a separate phenomenon and compared its common and uncommon aspects with Baroque music. Additionally, we examined the charateristics of the traditional instruments and observed how their musical abilities affect to play in this genre. After these processes, the data that we obtained are incorporated in this thesis. We analysed the major pieces that were composed in this genre, and we showed the main aspects of this genre in our new composition called "Concerto Grosso alla Turca". Comparing to other works, the distinct feature of this work is its Concerto Grosso genre, the concertino part will be played by traditional Turkish music instruments such as the kemence of Istanbul, tanbur, kanun, ney, ud, bendir, def and daire. For this purpose, firstly we examined original characteristics of these instruments. Afterwards, we composed the aforementioned parts according to these characteristics. These scores which are written in harmony with all instruments in the Baroque orchestra has been presented in the conclusion part of this dissertation.
