A study on sustainability of new built environments in traditional settlements, Bodrum case

This study which points out "a research about sustainability of the contemporary built environment in traditional settlements", consists of five chapters. In the first chapter, the aim of the study is expressed by defining the problem. After that, the method of the study is defined and limitations are determined with the scope of this study. In the second part, the concept of "relationship between sustainability and architecture" is investigated, than built environment is examined on this concept. The periodical variations are tried to be determined in the line with consequence of the information..In addition to them, the concept of "traditional" which is one of the component of thesis is investigated. Than, the role of this concept is determined in thesis. In the third chapter, the building approaches that is evaluated on the base of the concept of environment and sustainability are defined by investigating their speech In fourth chapter, the reflection of the concept of sustainability in Turkey is investigated by dividing into periods. In addition to that, the relation on construction approaches is also divided into periods and evaluated on the base of sustainability. In the fifth chapter, Bodrum settlement is selected for the case study, because of its traditional pattern and definite implementation planning approach. The sustainability of the settlement is researched and observed in singular and individual samples for its unparalel characteristics compared to Turkey. In conclusion part of the study, the main concept of study "sustainability" which affects the conceptual infrastructure of thesis is evaluated with the acquired data on this study.
