Abstract (EN)

The introduction port of this project includes the purpose, scope and the method which followed during the research period. In the second part geographic location and the history of Gelibolu up today is examined. Third part includes hammams in the Turkish Architecture, the birth of the hammam architecture and the bathing function researched in the historical process. The development of Turkish Hammam is handled in three seporate period as Anatolia Seljuk, Early Ottoman and Classical Ottoman and the places described with the classificotic of turkish architecture. Fourth porth begin with the characteristic composition of Gelibolu Hammams architecture, than these hammams examined one by one, places of the hammams researched seperately and dealec with the comparison of general characteristics. Fifth part continue with the explanation of internal and external deterioration of Şengül Hammam, which was taken as an example, and the reasons that cause the deterioration examined under two different title as natural factor and living factor, afterwords protection suggestions offered through this way. In P.S. parts, all the historical works identified in the location map of Gelibolu and hammams, which were going to be researched, was proved on the map. The plan and the characteristic places of six Gelibolu Hammams, that were taken on the map, prepored as a catalogue. The restoration and rolove projects of Şengül Hammam was drown. In the conclusion part some proves and evaluotions made in the light of Gelibolu Hammam catalogue, consequently the protection suggestions and the importance of the hammams is offered.
