Abstract (EN)

The Investigation of the Effects of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Applications on the Hip and Defined Functional Parameters in Children with Developmental Hip Dysplasia Aim: The objective of this research was to explore the impact of physical therapy and rehabilitation interventions on the hip and specified functional measures in children diagnosed with developmental hip dysplasia. Material and Method: Thirty patients (15 experimental group and 15 control group) individuals aged 2-5 years with a diagnosis of developmental hip dysplasia who underwent Salter Innominate Osteotomy at Turgut Ozal Medical Center were included in the study. After obtaining the post-surgical demographic information of all individuals, Trunk Control Measurement Scale (GKS), Lateral Bridge Test for Evaluation of Spinal Stability Muscles Endurance, Modified "Biering-Sorenson" Test, Trunk Flexors Endurance Test, "Prone bridge" Test (Plank), Spinal Sit-ups test for Evaluation of Stability Muscle Strength, Modified "push-ups" test, Evaluation with Radiological Imaging, 1 Minute Walk Test for Evaluation of Functional Mobility (1MWT), 10 Meter Walk Test, Timed Up and Walk Test (SKYT), Stairs Bounce Test and Muscle Strength Assessment were used. In addition to conservative treatment, a physical therapy and rehabilitation program was applied to Group 1 (Experimental group), and Group 2 (Control group) received conservative treatment, including walking, Dennis Brown brace usage, and positioning. Results: A total of 30 girl individuals with a mean age of 3.26.±1.09 (min:2-max:5) participated in the study. When the pre-treatment and post-treatment parameters were compared between the groups, it was determined in both groups that there was an increase in trunk control, spinal stabilization and functional parameters, an increase in femoral head ossification, a decrease in the acetabular index and femur inclination angle, and muscle strength improved. It was found to be significantly higher in the experimental group. Conclusion: Rehabilitation applied after at least 1 year after Salter Innominate Osteotomy in children with developmental hip dysplasia is effective in providing the control of body, increasing the spinal stabilization of individuals, improving functional capacity, increasing the femoral head ossification, which is one of the hip parameters, reducing the acetabular index and femur inclination angle, and improving muscle strength. We think that our study will make significant contributions to the literature, as the first study in this field, to understand the importance of rehabilitation for DDH patients between the ages of 2-5 and to become widespread.
