Özet (EN)

Globalization phenomenon that designates our world today, has brought about a deep-rooted conversion in the cities as in all areas. Thus, cities have become a significant actor and center in the deployment of the dynamics of globalization. In general, the study will dwell on cities whose function, meaning and character have changed with the impact of globalization. The various dimensions of the political, economical, cultural effects of globalization on cities will be determined in this study. These dimensions will be dealt with in terms of differences between cities of developing countries and cities of developed countries. In this respect, the effect of globalization on the urban identity of Ankara as a city in a developing country has been examined as an applied research comparing three regions which show different developmental characteristics. For this purpose, furthermore, opinions in domestic/foreign literature will also be presented, and the subject matter will be discussed in the historical continuum, within the context of globalization and city. This discussion starts off from the fact that globalization is a phenomenon and will be based upon the assumption that social, socio-cultural, political conversions transform the urban identity.
