Abstract (EN)

The 2nd article of the Maritime Labor Code numbered 854 has made the definition of the shipmaster. According to the Maritime Labor Code, one of the most authorized persons in the management and administration of the vessel is the shipmaster. The shipmasters authorities are quite extensive when the ship is in the off-shore. For this reason, the legal status of the shipmaster has also been a matter of debate. In this study; maritime labor law will be introduced to the reader, after explaining the parties and obligations of the maritime labor contract, the definition and legal status of the shipmaster will be discussed, the position of the maritime pilots will be revealed and finally the shipmaster's duty and obligations will be explained.
