Abstract (EN)

Increasing fuel prices, global energy demand and the introduction of new restrictive emission regulations require more efficient and environmentally friendly power cycles to be designed and the best evaluation of available energy types. If the vast majority of world trade is thought to have been carried by the ship transportation, energy efficiency is becoming important in ships. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) is gradually imposing limitations on marine origin emissions. Waste heat sources in vessels are main and auxiliary machinery. In this context, additional additional installations are necessary for the waste energy to be useful work. The main waste heat sources in a ship are: exhaust gas, cooling water, lubrication oil and sweeping air. One of the methods for energy recovery from these waste heat sources is Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC). ORC applications are seeing an increasing interest in renewable energy and waste heat recovery systems. These applications are especially used to convert low and medium thermal energy sources into useful works. Different configurations can be applied using organic fluid cycles. In this study, the Transcritical Rankine Cycle that is a derivative of the Organic Rankine Cycle, examined for waste heat recovery. Heat exchangers are naturally used in waste heat recovery. For this reason, heat transfer and pressure lost models are used to accurately estimate heat transfer events in heat exchangers. In this study; the effects of pressure loss and specific enthalpy changes in heat exchangers to the thermophysical properties of work fluids and therefore to system performance examined. In addition, the effects of the main engine load, the working fluid flow and the heat exchanger parameters to the waste heat recovery system examined too.
