Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to evaluate whether the soft tissue parameters of individuals with attractive faces and individuals with unattractive faces differ in the young-adult Turkish population, to determine the angular and proportional soft tissue parameters of attractive faces instead of the standard norms frequently used in the orthodontic literature and to compare the obtained data with the literature data. In the study, which was carried out with the participation of 149 individuals, 88 women and 61 men, aged between 20-31; profile and facade photos were taken from each participant. Panel members consisting of 4 orthodontists, 4 plastic surgeons, 4 dentists, 4 architects and 4 non-professional individuals were asked to rate the photographs of the participants between 1-10 in order to evaluate their facial aesthetics. While 13 individuals who scored 7 points or more formed the attractive group in terms of facial aesthetics; 13 individuals who scored 3 points or less formed the unattractive group. As a result of scoring, male participants were excluded from the study because they could not get enough points in terms of attractiveness. Therefore, the result of the study only reflects female individuals. The obtained data were subjected to statistical analysis using Independent T-test and Mann Whitney U-test. As a result of the analysis made on frontal view photographs; the ratios of interpupillary width to face width and bigonial width were found to be significantly lower in the high score group than in the low score group. The ratio of forehead height to upper face height; the ratio of face width to face height; the ratio of the width of the nose wings to the height of the nose was found to be significantly higher in the high score group than in the low score group. As a result of angular analyzes on profile photos; lower lip projection angle, middle and lower facial triplet angle, and nasal angle were found to be significantly lower in the high score group than in the low score group, while the facial convexity angle was found to be higher. In the study; it was seen that the vertical development of the face, the nasal tip position, the vertical and transversal ratios of the face, and the angle of facial convexity could be important subjective markers in the evaluation of facial aesthetics.
