Abstract (EN)
Aim: This study analyzed the clinical crown dimensions of maxillary anterior teeth to determine whether consistent relationships exist between tooth width and several facial measurements in a subset of the Turkish population. Material and methods: A total of 100 dental students (50 males, 50 females) participated in this study. Standardized digital images of 100 participants were used to measure facial segments. The bizygomatic distance (BD), interpupillary distance (IPD), intercanthal distance (ICD), interalar distance (IAD), intercommissural distance (ICD) and intercanthal distance (ICAD) were determined by Image J software. The intraoral scanning with digital measuring system (Sirona, Cerec, Omnicam, Dentsply, Germany) was made. Individual dimensions of the maxillary anterior six teeth were measured using 3D Tool software (3D-Tool GmbH & Co. K, Germany). Statistical analysis was done using the student t-test to compare facial and tooth parameters. Results: Statistically significant difference was observed between the dimensions of central incisors and canines by gender. There were significant correlations between the IKAM, IAM and different tooth measurements. Conclusion: Intercanthal distance, interalar distance may serve as reference for establishing the ideal width of the maxillary anterior teeth. The maxillary central incisor and canine dimensions of men were greater than those of women in the Turkish population studied.
