Genç yetişkinlerde ilişki sürdürme davranışlarının yatırım modeli ve sosyo-ekolojik perspektiften incelenmesi

The purpose of the present study was to explore three relational outcomes: relationship maintenance behaviors, shared leisure time activities, and the marriage intention of dating young adults. The investment model was used as a theoretical framework, and the socio-ecological perspective was taken into account, specifically examining the role of relational mobility (RM). Firstly, a qualitative pilot study was conducted with 42 dating young adults to develop Shared Leisure Time Activity Scale. Their shared time activities and motivations for engaging in those activities were explored in the pilot study. The most frequently mentioned activities included watching movies/series/TV, traveling, and sports. In addition, the most frequently mentioned motivations included being similar with the partner, feeling comfortable/being yourself in the relationship, and enjoyment. A total of 321 dating young adults participated in the main study via filling an online survey. The results showed that relationship satisfaction and investmen size significantly predicted relationship maintenance, and only relationship satisfaction significantly predicted shared leisure time activities among three investment model variables. However, all three investment model variables, including relationship satisfaction, quality of alternatives, and investment size, significantly predicted marriage intentions. After controlling for the effects of the investment model variables, RM did not significantly predict outcome variables. Still, it approached significance in predicting relationship maintenance behaviors and shared leisure time activities. The present study contributed to the current literature in better understanding various behaviors in the close relationship from the perspective of person-situation interaction. The major findings and limitations of the study were discussed, and future suggestions were presented.
