Abstract (EN)

In this study, it was aimed to determine whether high school students? family functioning and locus of control is differentiated by gender, socioeconomic status, birth order, education level of parent, parental incompatibility and the relationship between locus of control and family functioning. The population of this study was 8794 students from 10 high school in Eskisehir in 2005-2006 academic year. The sample was 815 students who randomly selected from each grade from 9 high school that was %9.30 of the population. The data about high school students? perception of family functioning was collected by ?Family Assessment Scale? (Bulut, 1990) and data about locus of control was gathered by ?Nowicki- Strickland Locus of Control Scale? (Yesilyaprak, 1988). It was also used ?Personal Information Form? for collecting personal and parental data. The statistical analysis of gathered data was carried out by ?SPSS 10.0.0. for Windows?. In data anaysis, it was applied descriptive statistics and also t-test for independent variables. For the test of significance for differences among variables that have more than two independent variables it was applied one-way ANOVA when variances are homogeneous and one of the nonparametric tests Kruskal Wallis Test when variances are nonhomogeneous. It was determined by Levene Statistics whether variances were homogeneous or not. In case of significant F value it was applied to Tukey HSD Test for determining the cause of difference. In case of having significant results in Kruskal Wallis Test, it was applied Mann Whitney U Test for assessing the source of difference. It was applied Stepwise Regression Model whether family functioning predicts locus of control and whether this pattern was diffrentiated for girls and boys or not. For all statistical analysis the level of significance was .05. It was found that family functioning was differentiated by gender, birth order, education level of fathers and parental incompatibility from which variables related with high school students? personal and familial characteristics. However, it was found that family functioning was not differentiated by socioecenomic status and education level of parent. It was determined that students? locus of control was differentiated by gender, socioeconomic status and parental incompatibility. However, it was found that birth order, education level of parent did not make any difference on students? locus of control. Besides, it was found meaningful relationships between locus of control and general functions, affective involvement, communication and roles from family functioning features of hig school students. It was determined that general functions, affective involvement, roles and behavior control from family functioning features predicted statistically meaningful female students? locus of control. It was found that affective involvement and communication from family functioning did predict statistically meaningful male students? locus of control.
