Learning styles of the students in general high schools

Taking students' learning style consideration in to the gets importance in learning and teaching process. In order to arrange method, technique, strategy and material usage according to learner needs and in oder to enable learners to take more responsibilities about learning, to create suitable learning situations, to be educated in suitable fields, both teachers and learners need to know learning styles. The goal of this study is to identify learners learning styles who are educated at 10th class of Science, Turkish-Mathematics and Social Science fields of general high schools. The study was conducted on learners who were educated at 10th class of Science, Turkish-Mathematics and Social Science fields of eight general high schools which were in the center of Eskişehir, during 2002-2003 education years. The datas of this study which was a survey model were collected by using surveys which were completed by learners. Learning styles of learners who were at 10th class of Science, Turkish-Mathematics and Social Science fields were identified by using the survey which had 21 questions. Number and percentages, factor analysis, t and F test were used as statistical technique in tihe study. In order to identify meaningful relations between variables, meaningful level was taken as 0,05. As a conclusion, it was identified that percentage of the learners who were educated at 10th class of Science, Turkish-Mathematics and Social Science had visual learning style and this percentage was followed by auditory and kinesthetic learning styes. vIn terms of gender, there wasn't any diffrence among female learners, but was seen that kinesthetic learning style was dominant among males. In terms of fields, there wasn't any difference had visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning style in the field of Science, Turkish- Mathematics and Social Sciences.
