Transgeric prodocts: Risk and advantages

vm ABSTRACT The objective of this study is to research the agricultural products that are produced by the techniques of the current genetic engineering that opens a new era in agricultural production and to review the discussion about the advantages and disadvantages of these products in the world literature. In the first section of the study, the change in the supply and demand for food against the rising world population, which is thought as the reason for the utilization of genetic engineering in the agricultural production, has been analyzed. In the second section, the definition of the gene technology is made; the utilization of this technology in the agricultural production is analyzed and its effects on tah market and off the market are emphasized. The effects of the biotechnology on the economy are also discussed. In the last section, the advantages and disadvantages of the practices of the biotechnology are investigated. By analyzing the areas of discussion on the transgenic products, the players thought in this discussion are explained. In conclusion, the legal regulations about the transgenic products in the world and in Turkey are examined.
