Investigation of some particular structural systems of wide spanning buildings with respect to materials and forms from the point of span lengths

In this study, covering systems of wide spanning structures are observed in terms of their materials; steel, wood and reinforced concrete, and their forms. These materials that forms wide spanning systems are examined by their physical, chemical, mechanical, etc. properties. Afterwards, geometric classification and structural efficiencies of the construction elements that can be made by those materials are analyzed.This thesis study consists of four main parts. In the first part, introduction, objective, content and method of this thesis is explained. Historical process of wide spanning structures is also mentioned in first part.In the second part, properties and construction techniques as load-bearing system of steel, glued laminated timber and reinforced concrete materials that form load-bearing systems of covering systems of wide spanning structures are mentioned.In the third part, load-bearing system analyses of the covering systems of wide spanning are done. In this part, firstly, sizing of the system elements in specific forms ( solid, plane latttice ve space truss ) is done. Then weights and costs of those systems are calculated. Lastly, according to calculations, weights and costs of steel and glued laminated timber systems are compared in tables and graphic bars between following groups : steel-steel, GLT-GLT, and steel- GLT .At the conclusion part, data of the previous parts are evaluated.Keywords: Steel, Glued Laminated Timber, Covered Systems, Structural Forms, Structural Materials
