Historical development and evaluation of extended flute techniques in the context of performer-composer

The change and innovation process in all aspects of art in the 20th and 21st century has also manifested itself in music. In this process, which is called "the new music", it can be seen that musical forms and techniques have also changed. In contrast to the traditional timbre of most instruments during this period, which is also called the modern period, different effects were obtained through extended techniques, and these frequently-used techniques have become indispensable in modern music. In this study, four solo works were selected based on chronological order from in the 20th and 21st century flute repertoire. By evaluating the techniques used in these works, the information about the performance of the new extended techniques were given to the flutists. This study begins with the "Introduction" section, which includes the titles "Problem, Importance of Research, Limitations and Universe Paradigm, Methods, Model, Assumptions and Data Collection and Analysis". The second part includes both technical and musical evaluations of the four selected works in chronological order from the solo works within the flute repertoire. In the third part of the research, extended techniques were evaluated and suggestions were made to the flutists for understand easily and performance, as well as the forms of writing in the works, in which extended techniques are included and their notation can be reached. The fourth and final part of the work includes the modern solo flute repertoire consisting of extended techniques and limited to accessible sources. Accordingly, this study is intended to be a guide for flutists to understand easily and performance of new techniques.
