Sanat yoluyla soylulaştırma: dolapdere'nin sosyo-mekansal dönüşümünde sanat kurumlarının rolü

Profit-oriented investments have been noticed in Dolapdere since 2000, a run-down central area. The socio-spatiale restructuring of the region coherent with the neoliberal urban politics that has accelerated with the anounce of Dolapdere as toursitic region in 2007, continues with the arrival of influential artistic institutions such as Pilevneli Gallery, Arter, Dirimart Evliyagil Dolapdere, Tunca Sanat and Gaia Gallery. This situation leads to the spread of discourses referring to Dolapdere as the new art center that highlights the processes of gentrification. Therefore, artistic institutions become the primary vectors of the gentrification process in Dolapdere. In this study, the narrative of establishing a dialogue with the neighborhood and being accessible to all by the artistic institutions has been examined, among with the sense of belonging of their employees to Dolapdere. This research shows that due to the economic, social and intellectual characteristics of artistic institutions, their discourses are unilateral and that Dolapdere as a run-down area has become an object of spectacle for and by artistic institutions. In addition, the employees do not feel belonging to the neighborhood due to the lack of consumption space suitable for their lifestyle and their prejudices about the district.
