A bibliometric study & content analysis on geometry teaching

In this study, it was aimed to determine&compare the features and tendencies of geometry teaching literature in national and international point of view. The sample of the study was composed of 439 articles that were written based on Geometry teaching between the years of 1980 and 2022 and took place in Web of Science database and open-access 137 thesis studies that were published in the same field in the same year range, took place in the website of Council of Higher Education National Thesis Center (CoHENTC) and were written in Türkiye. The study, in terms of its structure, was designed in a structure that was matched up with triangulation design which was one of the mixed method research designs and it was consisted of 3 stages. In the first stage, the articles about geometry teaching that were acquired Web of Science database were examined in terms of bibliometrics by using WoS and Vosviewer software. It was concluded that, in the field of geometry teaching, the year of 2020 was the most productive year, The USA was the most productive country, "geometry" was the most frequently used keyword, the article of Wu (2013) was the mort referred study, Educational Studies in Mathematics was the journal that had the most articles, and the WoS category having the most researches were the education researches. In the second stage, content analysis of thesis studies was carried out. In terms of thesis studies in Türkiye, lots of results were acquired such as, in the field, the year of 2019 was the most productive year, Ankara was the most productive city, Central Anatolia was the most productive region, quantitative research design was the most preferred design, and the most researches were carried out in doctoral degree. In the last stage, data acquired by 439 articles and 137 theses was subjected to comparative analysis in terms of their distribution of years and themes. The results, such as, the temporal development of the theses written in Türkiye had parallels with the theses written at international level, but interdisciplinary studies in the field of geometry failed to satisfy in terms of the distribution of themes&the suggestions were listed. It was thought that the findings acquired by this original study in the field of geometry teaching would be useful for the geometry teaching field and for the researchers that would study in the field in terms of offering a board perspective about the field.
