Abstract (EN)
Geometric shapes has been attractive to human beings since the oldest ages at history. After that artists had aimed at proposing three-dimensional forms by dividing objects and figures into different areas or ranges in having creation of different points of views. At the same time, while they were doing this they wanted to emphasize the two-dimensional feature of the canvas instead of creating depth of illusion. Those applying have demolished the central perspective and traditional system enduring its dominace since the Renaissance. This artistic movement pointed a revolutionary refraction with creating tradition instead of not taking into consideration of Europe's actual domain illusion in steady look. The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between the concepts of painting and geometry, considering that geometric forms are forms that create a sense of aesthetic pleasure. Besides, it's aimed to emphasize the importance of geometric forms in the art of painting with the transformation of the understanding of geometric form into cubism movement. Occurring codifications consist of rhythm, balance, light-shadow, color, contrast, shape-ground relation of shape-ground and design. The literature about topic are studied and the obtained sources are analyzed in a descriptive scanning method. At the same time, the analysis of the case studies has been included and at the end of the process, a plastic attitude has been carried out within the scope of the thesis topic. The thesis consist of four main parts and the fist part is "Introduction" indicating the purpose, method and problem status, second part is "The Relationship Between Geometry and Painting", the third part is "Cubism" and the fourth part is, "Paintings and Analyzes Made in the Scope Thesis". In the second and third chapters of the thesis, literature research has been done, in the last part of the third chapter, local and foreign artists related to the subject has been searched and information about the techniques that artists use in their works are given through visuals. In the fourth part of the study, the process of interpretation of geometric forms in pictorial language and analysis of ten applications made with an original attitude were has been completed according to the information obtained during the study.
