Abstract (EN)

At the beginning of the 21st century, with the technological developments, font production became digitalized and widespread. Designers have the ability to design and produce fonts with their personal computers and font design softwares. The number of designed and produced fonts in this period has increased, and continues to increase day by day. However, produced fonts contain anatomical problems in the form of letters and fonts with missing character sets are insufficient. Inharmoniousness in the spaces between letters constitutes another aspect of the problem. All these problems lead to the fact that the produced fonts are not preferred by the designers. This research is looking for the answer to the question of how a qualified font is designed. In the first chapter, the typographic concepts and letter anatomy knowledge that digital typeface designers should have known in the 21st century are researched. In the second chapter, Sans Serif typeface species is researched. In the third chapter, technical drawings of all the letters were prepared based on Sans Serif letter drawing training given in the "Introduction to Typography" course at Anadolu University Fine Arts Faculty Graphic Department in order to recognize the anatomical structures of the letters. In the fourth chapter, the design and font production process of the typeface design is researched. Based on the information of the research, a typeface is designed to solve the common problems in fonts.
