Abstract (EN)

Tool flank wear is an important criterion for machinability assessment of a material. The present work is an attempt to evaluate the influence of factors such as cutting speed and feed rate on flank wear during hard turning (HT) of hardened AISI 4340 high strength low alloy steel (51-53 HRC) with CBN cutting tools. Cutting tool flank wear is known to affect tool life, hence production time. Because of this on-line tool flank wear measurement continuously and monitoring system has been developed using a low cost sensor. These experiments were made in 180 and 250 m/sn cutting speed, 0.04, 0.08 and 0.12 mm/rpm feed rate and 0,2 mm depth of cut. Highly significant parameters were determined by performing the method of Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The tool flank wear get affected mostly by cutting speed.
