Abstract (EN)
The aim of the research is to examine the effect of the teaching fractions to 6th grade students through Realistic Mathematics Education (RME), which includes real-life experiences. In accordance with this purpose one group pretest posttest semi-experimental design control group is used. The study is carried with a total of 60 6th grade students, 29 of whom were in the control group and 31 of whom were in the experiment group, whom study in a public school which is at Gaziosmanpaşa in İstanbul. The Experiment group's education is carried out with RME, whereas the control group's education is carried out with current curriculum. To acquire quantitative data of the research, a Skill-Based Questions Achievement Test (SBQAT) was created, consisting of questions focusing on the sub-learning area of "Operations with Fractions" from the skill-based questions, which are published by The Ministry of National Education Assesment and Evaluation and Exam Services General Directorate, is used. Before and after the education process SBQAT was carried out as an pretest and posttest for both of the groups. The datas, which are acquired are analyzed by using t test for related samplings and t test for unrelated samplings. As a result of the analysis the RME, which is carried out on the experiment group and the current curriculum, which is carried out on control group has showed that it doesn't make a significant diffirence on success of the skill-based questions of the students. On the other hand, It has been reached the conclusion that the education with the RME approach has shown it improves the success of the skill-based questions of the students.
