ABSTRACT INVESTIGATION ON THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE LIFE QUALITY AND MENTAL POSITION OF THE INDIVIDUALS OF THE AMBULATION IN THE GERIATRIC INDIVIDUALS Yasin Gökhan BULU Thesis Advisor: Prof. Dr. Özlem ALTINDAĞ Master Thesis, Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Department June 2018, 73 pages Dementia, gait and balance disorders are more common in geriatric individuals and neurodegenerative patients, with progressive aging, and are an important cause of falls in this population. Especially with the progress of age, providing ambulance is starting to become a very difficult situation. A growing number of studies in recent years have suggested that physical activity and exercise should be part of people's lifestyles in order to alleviate the negative effects of aging on the body and mind. For this reason, in this study, the relationship between ambulatory level of geriatric individuals and the quality of life and mental status of the individuals was examined. This study was carried out between January and August 2017 by T.C. Ministry of Family and Social Policies Hatay Nursing Home Elderly Care and Rehabilitation Center and Hatay were selected by taking 100 individuals who volunteered to participate in the study and who met the criteria. In our study, 38 volunteers were women, 62% were men and the average age of the volunteers was 72.13 ± 7.58 years. The mean value of Functional Ambulance Classification (FAS) of the subjects who participated in my study was 3.88 ± 1.54. Furthermore, when the relationship between ambulance level and quality of life of the individuals in our study was examined, a low-correlated relationship was found between positive and negative (p <0.05). When the relationship between ambulance level and mental status was examined, a low-correlated relationship was found between positive and negative (p <0.05). In addition, there was no significant difference between gender, ambulance level and mental status in 100 geriatric individuals in our study, but there was a significant difference between age factor, ambulance level and mental status (p <0.05). The WHOQOL-OLD Total Score of the subjects in our study was found to be 86.6 ± 16.91. Furthermore, when we examined the relationship between ambulance level and mental status and quality of life of the individuals in our study, a low-correlated relationship was found in positive (p <0.05). No significant difference was found between the genders, marital status and age factors of the individuals in terms of quality of life (p> 0.05). MMSE-E for elderly individuals in our study: The mean value obtained according to Mini Mental Test for uneducated persons was found to be 24.39 ± 5.78.
