Belief about folk medicine in Dereli district of Giresun and reflections of practices from past to present

The most valuable thing for human life is health, and people resort to many treatments for health. Today, people apply to health institutions when they are sick. When people cannot go to health institutions, they apply traditional treatment methods in the treatment of their diseases. Folk medicine comes into play when people do not go to health institutions and apply traditional treatment methods. Folk medicine; They are the methods and applications used in the treatment of diseases in cases where people do not have the means, cannot go to the doctor for various reasons or practically prefer them. In the Dereli district of Giresun, it is seen that folk medicine methods and practices are used in addition to applying to health institutions in the treatment of diseases. In Dereli district, sources in nature, elements of Islamic and old Turkish belief are also determined in folk medicine methods and practices. When traditional folk medicine treatment methods are considered, it is understood that the old Turkish belief understanding has continued its existence from the past to the present in some treatment methods and applications. In historical sources, the detection of Turkish traces in Giresun province is mentioned as the 14th century. According to researchers, it is thought that Turks came to Dereli before Giresun. With the acceptance of Islam and its settlement in this geography, the old Turkish understanding of belief was not abandoned and this understanding continued by being synthesized with Islam. Folk medicine, which is our research subject, shows that it is possible to see the traces of the old Turkish belief in traditional folk medicine in Dereli district. Our research is under the title of Reflections of Beliefs and Practices Related to Folk Medicine in Giresun Dereli District from Past to Present; It consists of an introduction and three main sections. In the introduction part, the subject, purpose, importance, scope, limitations and method of the thesis; In the first part, general information about Giresun Dereli district is given, and the history, geography, economy, socio-cultural structure and historical places of visit of Dereli district; in the second part, information about folk medicine and classification of treatment methods in folk medicine; In the third part, the folk medicine practices of Giresun Dereli district are included and the treatment practices of the diseases in the district and the treatment methods of the patients are discussed. In the last part of the thesis, the thesis is concluded with the conclusion, bibliography, electronic resources, reference person list, map showing Dereli district and its villages, photographs, dictionary and compilation questions. In our study, it was tried to determine what treatment methods and practices people in Giresun Dereli district resort to when they are sick and do not go to the hospital.
