Abstract (EN)

Our research's subject is "A Group of Byzantine Coins Found in Giresun Museum". For this purpose, coins in Giresun Museum was tried to introduced in our research that we conducted between 2013 and 2017. 100 coins part of müseum collection and within the scope of the thesis were categorised by examination and then catalog compilation was made. According to this examination, 51 of the coins was commenced to be monetised after the currency reform made by I. Anastasion and dates back to the process when Constantinople was invaded by Latins in 1204. While 49 of the examined coins belong to Nicomedia and Trebizond Empires which were founded by the invasion of Constantinople. When evaluated inter se, 4 of these coins belong to Nicomedia Empire and 45 of them belong to Trebizond Empire. Coins monetised by subalternate Powers has its own currency unit and iconography although they were evaluated within Byzantine coins iconography. Particularly, this case is quite distinctive for Trebizond Empire's coins. Therefore, 100 coins examined within the scope of thesis was evaluated in two categories which are Byzantine coins and Trebizond coins.
