Evaluation of glandula suprarenalis volume by magnetic resonance imaging

Abstract (EN)

Adrenal gland sizes are important because it can vary in size and cause clinical problems. There are publications in the literature showing that adrenal gland volume changes especially in various diseases. In order to measure pathological adrenal gland sizes, normal adrenal gland sizes need to be known and should be established. The aim of this study was to investigate the volume of adrenal glands according to gender, decaders and various demographic factors, and to assist physicians working on adrenal glands and to refer to future studies on this subject. Fifty female and 50 male patients aged between 18 and 65 years who underwent abdominal MRI but no pathological findings were included in this descriptive study. The comparison of gender (female / male) and region (right / left / total volume) of the data was statistically evaluated and the age-related correlation of the parameters was evaluated. In our study, when the right glandula suprarenalis volume was evaluated in women, the mean right glandula suprarenalis volume was 3.81±1.04 cm3, the mean right glandula suprarenalis was 3,91±0,85 cm3, the left glandula suprarenalis volume was 3,86±1,01 cm3, the left male glandula suprarenalis volume was 3,94±0,80 cm3, total glandula suprarenalis volume was 7,67±2,00 cm3 in females and 7,85±1,64 cm3 in males and 3,86±3,64 in females. 0,92, the left volume was 3,89±0,90 cm3 and the total volume was 7,76±1,8 cm3. There was no significant difference between female - male and right - left - total comparisons. When the age-related correlation of glandular suprarenalis volume was examined, a poorly correlated and negative correlation was found between age, right, left and total volumes in all subjects. We observed that these results are consistent with the results of the studies in the literature. However, there are differences in some measurements. The reason for these differences may be due to different demographic factors, geographical differences and different measurement methods. In conclusion, we aimed to provide a reference value in the radiological evaluations of glandula suprarenalis in order to avoid any pathology in glandula suprarenalis depending on age, sex and various demographic factors in the normal population in the light of the data we determined.
