Abstract (EN)

The objective of this research was to evaluate the glutathione peroxidase levels and the levels of oxidants and other antioxidants with type 2 diabetes with and without diabetic nephropathy. In this case-control study, we assessed serum GPx (Se-Dependent, non selenium dependent and total GPx), total oxidant, lipid peroxidation, total antioxidant and catalase in healthy control subjects (group 1), in patients with T2D without diabetic nephropathy (group 2), with diabetic nephropathy (group 3). We also assessed microalbuminuria, plasma glycated hemoglobin levels in all study patients. GPx levels were significantly lower in T2D patients with and without nephropathy compared to control. Total oxidants and lipids peroxidation have a negative relationship with the GPx and other antioxidants.
