Abstract (EN)

In this research, 6 GNSS measurement sites, which had been established in previous geodetic studies, were used to determine the tectonic movements of Karaburun fault. The velocities of the GNSS sites were determined based on 3-campaign of GNSS measurements and the strain analysis was performed using the obtained GNSS velocities. As a result of the strain analysis, it is seen that the NE-SW trending dominant extensional and NW-SE trending compressional regimes dominate the Karaburun peninsula. When the solutions of the earthquakes occurred in the region and the strain fields were compared, it was observed that the earthquakes occurred were not compatible due to the fact that there were no earthquakes on the Karaburun fault, both at sea and on land. As a result of the geological studies, the kinematic solutions have been obtained showing that the northern part of the Karaburun fault is the normal fault with NE-SW trending extension and the southern part is a left lateral strike fault as a result of NE-SW trending extension and NW-SE trending compression. The results of this kinematic solution are in agreement with the strain results; therefore the compatibility of these results with the geological studies validates the accuracy of strain analysis. Based on the compatibility in the results, the strain analysis shows that earthquakes that will occur on the Karaburun peninsula may have a left lateral strike component.
