Teacher and administrator opinions on student misbehaviour in elementary schools depending on immigration

The aim of this research is to identify the opinions of teachers and administrators on student misbehaviour in elemeantary schools depending on immigration. Dilovası, Kocaeli, where I have conducted my research, receives dense immigration. The major reason behind immigration to Dilovası is economic inadequacies. Children? education becomes as non-important, while the family struggles with survival needs of itself. This lack of interest to the children and high amount of children in family, not being able to adapt to the big city life cause to unwanted results.Resarch group consisted 15 teachers and 8 administrators from 8 elemantary in 2008-2009 educational season. In order to collect data for research, semi structured interview forms have been prepared by the researcher. These forms have been conducted to teachers and administrators and have been recorded with audio recorder. Results from these interviews have been analyzed with content analysis.According to the results of interviews with the teachers and administrators, the major misbehaviour of the students are violence between students, lack of language quality, not bringing the course materials, usage of swearwords, damaging to course materials and absence. It is determined that the most problematic students are the ones who are coming from Eastern Region of Turkey. Reasons of misbehaviours? are examined in two factors as ?among class? and ?outside of class?. ?Among class? factors are determined as ?teachers?, ?the attitude of students about school? and ?expectation levels of students?. ?Outside of class? factors are determined as ?family?, ?administrator?, ?the labouring of students?, ?physical disabilties of schools?, ?environmental conditions? and ?inadequacy of guidance services?.Research?s possible solutions are, increasing the rate of counselor teachers, establishing a counseling center, giving a living space to teachers to understand and meet with the families of the students, creating spaces for students to spend their free time, preparing presentations to families about children development, increasing activities of parent-teacher associations, increasing security precautions for school yards and giving counseling to families to decrease violence between family.
