The effects of shading and fertilising applications on flower yield and growth in Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia miller.)

Abstract (EN)

Lavender is the common name of the Mediterranean plant species that belonging to Lavandula genus from the family of Lamiaceae. Lavender is an important perfume, cosmetic and pharmaceutical plant, cultured in the world because of its high content and high quality essential oil. In addition, the ability of this plant for growing easily in the areas ineffective, barren, inappropriately cultivated properties and desiring lack of water makes this species very attractive. Because of this feature, lavender is a plant suitable for growing in the dry and semi-arid regions of Turkey. However, this species only growing in the province of Keçiborlu. In this study, the effects of different shadow conditions and different fertilization practices on morphological characters and flower yield of Lavandula angustifolia were investigated. In the study 5 different shadow conditions were created as 35%, 55%, 75% and 95% shadow conditions and open area which is located in the province of İhsangazi, Kastamonu. To determine morphological characteristics of the seedlings and on the flower yield, three different fertilizer applications (sheep fertilization, cow fertilization, poultry fertilization) were applied to 20 applications including control shade, with having 5 shadows and 4 fertilizers groups. It has been determined that the morphological characteristics of the shadowed work are statistically significant on the study results. The highest values were found in shaded areas with 75% value, and the lowest values were found in the open areas. The effect of fertilization practices was statistically insignificant in terms of many characters.
