Abstract (EN)

Purpose: The purpose of this study is evaluating the differences in pulpal blood flow of adjacent second molar by using Piezoelectric surgery devices or conventional rotary instruments in mandibular impacted third molar surgery. Materials and methods: The healthy, non-smoker patients that having second molar teeth with no pathological situations and were referred to our clinic for extraction of the impacted mandibular third molar teeth are included in this study. Sixty patients are included in this study and diversed into two groups. In first group impacted third molar surgery is performed with conventional rotary instruments and in second group impacted third molar surgery is performed with piezoelectric devices. Pulpal blood flow measurements are recorded both operation day just before operation and in the 7th day with laser doppler flowmetry. The records are evaluated that if any statistically difference between the preoperative and postoperative measurements of two groups. Acrylic plates are prepared preoperatively and adapted to teeth. The patients are positioned with frankfort line is just parallel to floor to standardize the pulpal blood flow measurements. Results: The decrease in Perfusion (PU) mean volume in pulpal blood flow of adjacent second molars is statistically meaningful in conventional rotary group than in piezoelectric surgery group. Discussion: The decrease in pulpal blood flow in adjacent second molars is significantly less in performing piezoelectric devices in third molar surgery.
