Abstract (EN)
Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the incidence of postoperative pain, edema, and alveolar osteitis following mandibular impacted third molar surgery and to investigate the effects of postoperative CGF and PRP in comparison with the results of standard surgical extraction. Material and Method: A total of 42 patients scheduled for surgical extraction of impacted mandibular third molars were included in the study and randomly assigned to three equal groups. The control group underwent standard surgical extraction, while the other groups received post-extraction CGF or PRP. Postoperative pain, edema, and alveolar osteitis were assessed and statistically compared in all groups. Results: While no significant difference was found in postoperative pain levels between the groups in the study, pain levels were lower in the CGF group compared to the control group. When examining edema findings, a decrease was observed over time in all groups; CGF was found to be more effective in reducing edema in the early phase, while PRP was found to be more effective in reducing edema in the late phase. No complications were observed in terms of alveolar osteitis in any of the participants. Conclusion: This study demonstrates that biological materials contribute to the postoperative course after impacted third molar surgery. CGF application had a positive effect on edema and pain in the early period, while PRP application contributed particularly to the late-term reduction of edema. No incidence of alveolar osteitis was observed. Keywords: Concentrated growth factor, mandibular third molar, postoperative pain, postoperative edema, platelet-rich plasm
