Abstract (EN)
Many methods are being applied to eliminate the complications occurring postoperative to impacted mandibular third molar extraction. The healing quality and circulation rates should change by different methods and are also important for patient comfort. In our study, it is aimed to evaluate the effect of topical ozone therapy (Apoza-Ozone DTA) on pain, edema, trismus and circulation of soft tissue in the operation field after third molar surgery. 40 patients (26 females and 14 males) between 18 -24 yrs were included in; having bilateral impacted mandibular third molars. A randomized controlled split mouth method was preferred to design two groups; one as ozone and the other as control. One point on the narrow tooth and three points on gingival tissue were determined for the evaluation of circulation, measured by laser doppler flowmeter. Meanwhile the values of pain, edema and trismus were recorded by metric measurements anv VAS. The NSAID were also recorded. All measurements were done preoperatively and on days 3 and 7 postoperatively. According to the results, ozone group demonstrated significant decrease in edema on the third day and in trismus values on the 3rd and 7th days. Pain and the number of NSAID used showed also significant decrease in this group. The pulpal circulation of narrow teeth was recorded lower than preoperative values in ozone group. The circulation values of soft tissue showed significant increase on the 3rd day compared to preoperative values and on the 7th day only one point values stayed still higher than the preoperative values (p<0,05).
