Effectiveness of teaching with simultaneous prompting in teaching cane skills to individuals with visual impairment

In this research, the effectiveness of simultaneous prompting method teaching in providing cane skills from independent movement skills to an individual affected by visual impairment has been investigated. Among the cane skills, the student was taught the ability to walk with the pendulum cane technique, the ability to climb stairs with a cane and the ability to ride an elevator with a cane. Then the individual's 7. 21. and 28. it has been studied whether these cane skills that he earns per day make it functional. In addition, it was investigated whether he could generalize the same skills in different environments. In order to determine the effectiveness of the simultaneous prompting method, one of the non-Deceptive teaching methods, a multi-survey model with a behavioral inter-survey phase, one of the single-subject research models, was used in the research. In the research, three behavioral teaching methods were studied with a student who was affected by visual impairment and who was continuing integration education at the secondary school level. Polling, teaching, monitoring and generalization sessions were organized during the research to evaluate the effectiveness of the teaching presented by the simultaneous prompting. Research findings have shown that an individual affected by visual impairment effectively acquires the cane skills taught by the simultaneous prompting. As a result of the teaching, 7. 21. and 28. it has been found that the persistence of behavior lasts for days and that it can generalize the same skills in different environments. According to the social validity form data, it was determined that parental opinions regarding the teaching were positive.
