Abstract (EN)
In the visual arts course, students have the opportunity to develop their creativity and aesthetic understanding while getting to know different art fields such as painting, sculpture, photography, ceramics and so on; they strengthen their visual expression skills by working on basic concepts such as colour, line and composition. At the same time, they learn about the history of art, art movements, basic features and cultural accumulation by recognising the leading artists of their periods. Education and training methods used in education are highly important in terms of enhancing the permanency of the information provided. One of these methods is creative drama, which is one of the education and training method techniques used in art education as well as in different disciplines. Creative drama is an impressive method that enlivens the learning process of students in the field of art education and makes them active participants. While enabling students to develop their self-expression, co-operation and critical thinking skills, it also allows them to experience the power and impact of art. In the 12th grade visual arts course, the study group of the research, which aims to determine the effect of teaching contemporary art movements through creative drama on student achievement, consists of 40 students randomly selected from 12th grade students studying at Biltem College Anatolian High School in the 2022-2023 academic year. The study group was divided into 2 groups as experimental and control group. Contemporary art movements were taught by creative drama method with the experimental group and by traditional expression method with the control group. The data of the study were obtained with pre and post questionnaire applications applied to both groups. According to the results obtained by analysing the data, a significant difference was found between the achievements of the experimental group students who took the course with the creative drama method and the control group students who took the course with the traditional lecture method. At the end of the research, suggestions are given based on the results of the research.
