In visual arts education the effect of artist focused activities on student performance: Sample of Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu

In this research, based on the life and art of Bedri Rahmi Eyuboglu, one of the important representatives of Turkish art in the 20th century, who produced in more than one field of art, and who was affected by the culture of the society he was in while doing these, what kind of activities could be done in the secondary school visual arts class and how these activities could be affected by the student performance effect is studied. Considering that the number of artists who work in more than one type of art is thought to be few in number, the research is important because it demonstrate that it can introducing Bedri Rahmi Eyuboglu's art in all its aspects, how an artist acts as a bridge between the past and the future, with the characteristics of the period, the artist's mentality, his literary personality and his art, rather than merely presenting an artist example to the students. For this purpose, some activities that are related to the art of Bedri Rahmi Eyuboglu were carried out for he students of seventh grade. Among the qualitative research methods, observation and interview technique and quantitative research method were used in the research. The participants of the research consisted of 40 students attending the 7th grade in a secondary school in Adana. Prepared based on the works of Bedri Rahmi for the participants; 4 different activities were made, consisting of Nested Figures, Motif Design, Painting on 3D Objects (Working on Waste Material) and Designing Letter Envelopes. As a result of the research, it was seen from the data obtained from the observation, interview and product evaluation form that the majority of the students enjoyed the Nested Figures activity. As a result of the evaluation of the paintings by the jury, it was seen that the most qualified result was obtained from the Study on Waste Material activity. Thus, it has been seen that students enjoy different activities more, are willing to learn, and recognize a versatile artist and adopt an exemplary artist, and in this direction, they are more free to work. It is thought that examining the artist-oriented activities applied in visual arts education and being a current study that can give an idea about the needs and what can be done in the future will contribute to the field.
