The usage of waste object in visual art after 1945

Technology, which has developed fast within 19th century, caused a transformation in the consumption ? production relations. The speed and the variety of production and the development of the instruments of the mass media have created anew form of society, called consumption society. With the results of these, the majority of the industrial products have become disposable. Art that we can?t keep out of this process, has overcome the problem of classification in the process and with the vanishing of the borders in the area of art, visual art has embraced all disciplines.Artists have transformed the waste objects or the objects that can?t meet the needs to artistic works by leaving them out of function within their real meanings. The value of the used objects after their being wasted has been formed according to the creator and it has gained a subjective statue.The waste object before 1945 has entered the art of painting with the aesthetic transformations at the beginning of the 20th century. The historical journey of the collage, which started with Braque and Picasso, has developed with the contribution of other artist of that period and has led the way not only by cutting, pasting and arrangement, but also by using different materials. Collage has gained both objective and intellectual dimensions in Dadaism.The dynamism in artistic movements after 1945 has created a long lasting enthusiasm of meaning in the choosing of waste objects and in the possibilities of expressing the waste objects by raising the issue of artist?s subjectivity. Painting and sculpture was not peculiar to themselves in application any more; they were in cooperation with other disciplines. Therefore the borders between life and art have vanished. The waste objects sometimes were a mean for objections and sometimes they were the aim for expression; finally they have become works of art.In the second part, the concept of waste objects is examined according to the changing technology and the culture of consumption; the aesthetic transformations are mentioned according to the object-subject relations one by one. By researching the usages of waste objects and their intellectual bases, the works of art are searched in the historical process. Also, by observing the effects of this historical process on Turkish art, the approach of Turkish artists to waste objects is searched.
