Abstract (EN)

Human Computer Interaction is a multidisciplinary field of study that includes making existing systems based on information and communication technologies more useful to meet human needs and developing more convenient systems in response to changing demands. Computer science, cognitive sciences and human factors engineering are the study areas that underlie Human Computer Interaction. As it turns out, the most complicated part of the Human Computer Interaction, which targets the human on the basis of the user and the user expectations, comes out as human again. Human Computer Interaction is becoming increasingly important as computer-interactive applications and systems play a central role in every aspect of life. The increasing popularity of user-based systems and applications has shown that cognitive and mental processes belonging to human beings must be understood at a good level. The priority and importance of scientific work in this area is becoming more apparent in terms of contribution to existing systems and applications. Visual perception is the most familiar type of perception, creating the vast majority of perceptual research. Scientific work reveals very important findings in response to questions such as how visual perception occurs intellectually, how information is processed in memory systems, and what are the mental constraints of man. However, since these findings are related to many variables, they brought many unknowns together. Therefore, many aspects of visual perception that remain to be solved continue to be the focus of scientific studies. In the context of visual perception, perception and recognition of faces involves difficult and complex visual processes. It is a multi-dimensional pattern that reflects people's face, mood, age, gender, etc., and is familiar to everyone. The human face pattern used in the study of visual perception processes is also the most noticeable biological stimuli. Electroencephalography (EEG), in which the human brain responds selectively to stimuli containing human facial expressions in certain processes, has been observed within studies. The perception and recognition of the human face is not only in the field of cognitive neuroscience but also in many researches such as computer vision, biometric studies. However, it is still the highest level that is expected to be able to capture the success rate and sensitivity of people on computer systems. Brain Computer Interfaces developed within Human Computer Interaction can use the user's mental activities and their physiological expressions simultaneously due to the electrical activity of the brain. The elaboration of the information about the mental processes and the functioning of the brain will contribute to the development of Brain Computer Interfaces. In this thesis study, images containing human faces with images (objects, flowers, animals etc.) belonging to different categories are used as visual stimuli. The images containing the human face were included in different stimulus categories, and an experiment template containing gradual steps was prepared according to the parameters. In this view, related brain responses and brain regions varying from visual stimuli in different stimulus presentations are examined. Our thesis study on signal and resource based changes based on different parameters (memory systems, proximity, sex, etc.) presents a holistic approach to methods used in the field of face perception and recognition.
