Analysis of newspaper headlines of the matches played by Beşiktaş Football Club in the Europa League in terms of semiotics

This study aims to analyze the football headlines of newspapers that influence and direct individuals and societies. Newspapers are mass communication tools that use words and phrases that contain deep meanings and aim to address the subject differently and create different emotions in the reader with the headlines. In addition, by associating the social, political, social and economic events that occurred on the day the newspaper headline was written with the newspaper title, the newspaper offers the opportunity to convey its own ideology to the society and aims to create a different perspective in the reader by likening the result of the match and the developments that took place in the match. In the modern world, it has become inevitable for football, a sport that reaches a wide audience and sports audience, to become a hobby and profession that takes individuals and societies away from the stress of daily life. It aims to investigate how the results of the matches and the developments that took place during the matches played by Beşiktaş Football Club, one of the teams we call the big 3 in our country, are covered in newspaper headlines after the matches they played in the European League. This study, which aims to examine the reflections of the European League football matches that took place between 1958 and 2023 in newspaper headlines, was analyzed by considering 3 national newspapers, namely Milliyet, Hürriyet, Cumhuriyet, and 2 sports newspapers, namely Fotomaç and Fanatik.
