Analysis of newspaper headlines of matches played by Galatasaray Football Club in the Europa League in terms of semiotics

Semiotics comes across as a science with a wide research field. This feature is widely used in literature, photography, painting, press, media, etc. it allows semiotic studies to be carried out in the fields. The fact that semiotics subjects everything that has meaning to the field of study has prepared the ground for its application in the field of press. Newspapers that have an important place for the press and come to mind first when it comes to the press may be the subject of semiotics studies. Newspapers with a rich source in visual and linguistic terms are one of the areas that are considered worthy of examination in this aspect. The fact that the Turkish language has riches both syntactically and in terms of meaning makes newspapers stand out in this regard. The headline, which is used as a news headline in newspapers, appears on the first page of the newspaper. The most basic function of headlines is to attract the attention of readers. Newspapers present the most important news that may be of interest to the public, informing the public, happening in the country or in the world from the headline. In this study, the news headlines reflected in the newspaper headlines after the matches Galatasaray played with European teams were examined in terms of semiotics. For this purpose, five newspapers were taken into account and a semiotic examination of the newspaper headlines in question was conducted between 1956 and 2023 Dec.
