Abstract (EN)

Purpose: Abnormalities of eyelid shape are one of the cases that may ocur at any age and effect the patient's life quality, visual functions and comfort. These abnormalities can be regarded as illnesses that can be cured medically and by means of surgery and they include the definitions such as ptosis, entropion, ectropion, lagophthalmus and dermatochalasis and etc. Accordingly, meibomian glands are big sebaceouses glands that are located in lower and upper eyelids. Within the scope of our research, it is aimed to observe changes through cornea anterior segment parameters and meibomian glands of patients who are operated due to abnormalities in their eyelid shape. Material and Method: In terms of our research, 31 patients, who have been operated due to abnormalities of eyelid shape in Afyonkarahisar Health Sciences University Hospital, are investigated in the scope of cornea topographic measurements and of loses of meibomian glands at the pre-operative and first month post-operative processes and at the third month of post-operative. Patients surgical eyes have been determined as the study group and their healthy eyes have been determined as the control group. Findings: Surgical and healthy eyes of 31 patients are included in this reseach. (N=62). In the research, there are 18 male and 13 female patients. Average age and standard deviation values of patients are determined as 66,50±17,315 by means of men and 65,92±13,714 (P=0,659) by means of females. In terms of cornea anterior segment parameters (K1, K2, ACD ve CCT); it is determined that there has been no prominent difference in pre-operative and post-operative results in each group. Also, by means of meibography; it is revealed that the increase of meibomian gland lose of surgical eyes measurements of preoperative and postoperative are statistically found significant (P=0.000*); although the change through healthy eyes are not statistically significant (P=0,051). Thanks to separate investigation of surgery groups; it has been determined that although the change through meibomian glands of entropion patients is not significant (P=0,066), the loss of meibomian gland of the other groups are statistically found significant (P< 0,05). Result: Surgical methods applied due to abnormalities of eyelid shape can lead patients to meibomian gland loss. Pre-operative assessment of patients whose surgeries are planned and organized and the postoperative monitoring need to be done meticulously in order possible symptoms not to increase and the meibomian gland dysfunction not to occur. KeyWords: Eyelid surgeries, ptosis, ectropion, entropion, blepharoplasty, lagophthalmus, meibography, meibomian gland dysfunction, corneal topography.
