Abstract (EN)

IV ABSTRACT Master Thesis AN INVESTIGATION ON THE HEAT CONDUCTION PARAMETERS OF POROUS BUILDING STONES Atilla Gencer DEVECİOGLU Fırat University Graduate Shcool of Natural and Applied Sciences Department of Mechanical Engineering 2001, Page: 41 This study was earned out to investigate the theoretical and experimental results of thermal conductivity of porous building stones that were widely used in the construction industry of the southeast region of Turkey. In the theoretical section, the mathematical model was developed for the calculation of thermal conductivity of porouse stones. In this model, the random and complex geometric shape porouses in stone was accepted as in the cubic form, and total volumetric wideness of porouses in the stone was taken as the porosity parameter. For the calculation of the porosity parameter, the density method was used to solve the problem. In the mathematical model, heat transfer coefficient of the stone matrix and the gas in the porouse were also very important parameters as well as the porosity parameter. In the experimental study section, eight different stones which were widely, used in the construction industry of Diyarbakır. Batman, Mardin. Şanlıurfa and Adıyaman cities and around was examined for the application of the mathematical formula. The stones were obtained as a block from stones mines and the samples were cut from stone blocks for the experimental study and some samples for zero porosity experiments wereachieved from powdered stones. The application of the mathematical model was used to compare the theoretical and experimental results of thermal conductivity of stones. More over, thermal and mechanical properties were established by experimental stud\ and there for it was presented the basic properties of investigated regional stones. Key Words : Porous stones, porosity, thermal conductivity.
