Abstract (EN)
Several active power factor correction techniques have been developed to satisfy international standards such as EN-61000-3-2 and IEEE 519-1992. Nowadays, as a result of increasing use of semiconductors and power electronics devices, current harmonics? effects on the electrical systems have become intolerable. Therefore, it has become essential problem to reduce these harmonic currents, which effect negatively the energy system quality, and shaping the current actively to achieve a good power factor. In this study, the effects of nonlinear loads and converters on the input power and total harmonic distortion factors are analyzed and the use of power factor correction techniques to improve power quality of ac systems is investigated. In this thesis DC/DC boost converter, one cell and two cell (interleaved) power factor corrected boost preregulator circuits are designed and simulated with proportional-integral, averaging based sliding mode, predictive current mode control methods and the corresponding results are compared. MATLAB/SIMULINK computer programme is used for simulations.
