Investigation power transformers failures

In this study, we investigated power transformer failures in detail. Our aim is to develop some common techniques that can be used in power transformer failure analysis. This procedure is primarily focused on power transformers used on electrical utility systems, but it may be also helpful for the investigation of any ac transformer failure. We aimed to form a methodology about the most probable failues at the transformers using in utilities and former transformer failures. In this study, it is also intended to encourage the establishment of routine and uniform data collection procedures at failures on the transformers used in transmission systems, consistency of nomenclature and compatibility with similar efforts by other organizations, and cooperative efforts by users and manufacturers during the failure analysis was tried to be developed.Failure statistics are constructed by analyzing 240 power transformer failures in Turkey between the years of 1995 and 2007. In this study, our aim is to determine optimum evaluation methods for power transformer failures by processing the collected data with a computer. Software based analysis is performed to investigate power transformer faults by evaluating probable transformer fault situations and protection signals.Examples are provided from various power transformer faults that can help people in similar situations to identify the faults by employing the techniques developed in this thesis.
