These are, from the oldest to theyoungest, Paleozoic Bitlis Metamorphites, Upper Cretaceous Guleman Ophiolite, UpperMaastrichtian- Middle Eocene Hazar Group, Middle Eocene Maden Complex and Miocene LiceFormation.Guleman ophiolite made up of tectonites which comprises dunite and chromite bearingharzburgites and cumulates which contain dunites, wehrlite, clinopyroxenite, gabbros, diabasedykes, sheeted dyke complex and basic volcanites are other constituents of the ophiolite. Thirtyrock samples of Guleman Ophiolite were analyzed using ICP-MS methods in order toinvestigate geochemistry and geotectonic environment of their formation. Analytical data showMgO decrease and SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3, CaO, Na2O, K2O and TiO2 increases from ultrabasiclithologies towards basic rocks. The REE contents are less than or at around detection limits indunit and harzburgites and increase towards basalts. Guleman Ophiolites plot in areas indicateformation in mid- oceanic ridges and have the geochemical characteristic of MORB.Eight rocks samples, 2 from each of dunite, harzburgite, pyroxenite and gabbro and 20chromite ore samples were analyzed for Pt, Pd, Rh and Au using ICP-MS and for Ir and traceelements using Neutron Activation Methods. The analytical data are normalized for primitivemantle and used in spider diagrams. These diagrams illustrate that the rocks have negativeanomalies for Rh, Pt is close to mantle values, Pd close or show enrichment and Au is enrichedin comparison to the mantle. The PGE contents of ore samples vary. Ir shows positive anomaly,Rh negative, Pt and Pd are close to or richer, and Au is richer than the mantle values.Key Words: Guleman, Ophiolite, podiform chromites deposits, PGE (Platinum GroupElements)
