Examination of Gülsüm Cengiz's child stories in terms of themes and prompts in the context of Turkish teaching

Children's literature is a branch of literature which tries to satisfy children's curiosity, needs, feelings and thought, aiming to reach their world with a body of written and orally transmitted materials. Works of this genre which present visual and linguistic resources since pre-school period to become first means to direct children sense the delicacy of their mother tongue, have also the important function to engrain the love and habit of reading in them. Textes of children's literature make significant contribution to the development of children's basic linguistic skills as well as to the enrichment of their fantasy world. Gülsüm Cengiz, a prominent figure in Turkish Children and Juvenile Literature, has made a significant contribution in the field with her published poems, short stories, novels and dramas. Due to the fact that Gülsüm Cengiz is well known as a poet, writer and educator in the field, some of her children books, namely "Son Çiçek", "İpini Kopartan Uçurtma"; "Ayşe'nin Günleri" and "Ahşap Evin Çocukları" ("The Last Flower", "The Kite Which Broke Its String", "Days of Ayşe" and "Children of Wooden House" in English), have been examined in terms of themes referenced in the Turkish Language Teaching using survey and content analysis method.
